Design in Motion Exhibition 4 Dec 2013 – 14 Feb 2014
HKDI Gallery, HKDI & IVE (LWL)
With the Grand Opening on 4th December 2013, Belgian architect and designer Charles Kaisin showcases various design product and installation arts, all linked by two themes: motion and recycling. Selected exhibits illustrate the innovative and recycling use of materials in the creation of contemporary and sustainable designs. This exhibition is kindly supported by Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

Belgian Spirit: Dress Code Exhibition 4 Dec 2013 – 31 Mar 2014 | d-mart, HKDI & IVE (LWL)
With the Grand Opening on 4th December 2013, the exhibition offers a detailed overview of today’s and tomorrow’s Belgian fashion, and will showcase signature fashion pieces from Belgian fashion designers in an exquisite setting created by curator Charles Kaisin and students of HKDI. This fashion exhibition is jointly organised by HKDI & IVE (LWL) and Belgian Spirit, a joint initiative of the three Belgian regions Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia to promote Belgian fashion, design and architecture in Asia.

HKDI Gallery, HKDI & IVE (LWL)
Collaborated between HKDI and IVE (LWL) and the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, a fine selection on industrial design products created by George Nelson, the founding father of American Modernism, will be showcased at the George Nelson: Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher Exhibition from 14 March to 2 June 2014 at HKDI Gallery, with a series of educational activities to engage the wider public. This is an exhibition of the Vitra Design Museum, Germany, and has been generously sponsored by Herman Miller International, Asia Pacific. |

Department of Communications Design and Digital Media - Exhibition of Student Works

Selected works of students from various programmes of HKDI's Department of Communication Design and Digital Media (CDM) namely Advertising Design, Creative Media, Digital Music and Media, Film and Television, Printing and Publishing and Visual Communication are exhibited on the ground floor of Tower A of HKDI campus for three months, showcasing the creative talents and world views of our new generation. |

SIGNED Magazine Issue 7
First published by HKDI in December 2011, SIGNED is a magazine with an international perspective that features key issues related to the local and international design communities, design masters and outstanding design works. In the 7th issue, SIGNED captures the essence of the series of Belgian design activities in Hong Kong, features an interview with HKDI Visiting Fellow / Yale University Caroline M Street Professor Sheila Levrant de Bretteville, and previews the up-and-coming exhibition of renowned product designer master George Nelson to be held at HKDI Gallery. SIGNED is currently available for take away at HKDI Gallery, d-mart, design bookstores including Basheer, Kubrick and MCCM Creations, also for viewing at the Government VIP Lounge of Hong Kong International Airport and a number of hospitals and clinics in Hong Kong.

| Business of Design Week (BoDW) – Inno Design Tech Expo & Education Corner |

As the Strategic Partner of the annual flagship event - BoDW, HKDI participated in two programmes, namely the HKTDC Inno Design Tech Expo and the Education Corner, both held from 5th to 7th December 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, based on the theme of "Sustainability in Design", HKDI's booth adopted green plants and wooden pallets as the key design elements, and created a natural environment that engaged a large number visitors to appreciate the students’ works and know more about HKDI. In addition, a collaborative agreement was signed between HKDI and ENSAV-La Cambre, a renowned architecture and visual arts school in Belgium at the House of Belgian Spirit opening on Dec 5, with the honour to be witnessed by Queen Mathilde and key government officials of Belgium. |

HKDI & IVE (LWL) Information & Alumni Day 2013

A special event to provide information about the learning experience and articulation pathway at HKDI and IVE (LWL), the Information & Alumni Day was held on 13th and 14th December 2013.A series of activities took place on the Design Boulevard, including showcases of student works, catwalk shows and music shows as well as information counters of all academic departments for consultation of programmes of study. Remarkable alumni also returned to their alma mater to have sharings on their design study and career, and to exhibit their works. It attracted over ten thousand secondary students, parents and teachers to join us these two days. |

| Opening Ceremony of Design in Motion and Dress Code Exhibitions |

Collaborated between HKDI and IVE (LWL) and Belgian Spirit, two exhibitions entitled Design in Motion and Dress Code are now on display at HKDI Gallery and d-mart respectively. Queen Mathilde and key government officials of Belgium, the Hon Anna WU Hung-yuk, Member of the Executive Council of the HKSAR, and Evert MARÉCHAL, Consul General of Belgium to Hong Kong and Macau, officiated the Grand Opening Ceremony on 4th December 2013 while Charles Kaisin, the Curator of Design in Motion and Dress Code Exhibition, led a VIP tour around the exhibitions. |
