We would like to invite you to one of the major events of HKDI and IVE (Lee Wai Lee) - Emerging Design Talents 2014: New Voices. Taking place annually in June, Emerging Design Talents is a platform to showcase the new generation of creative talents in Hong Kong, with an aim to introduce the public with the creativities, passions and skills of emerging designers. During the event, students of HKDI and IVE (Lee Wai Lee) will organize a series of design shows, exhibitions, performances, and workshops, and at the same time, gain valuable working experiences throughout the entire process of creation, exhibition and event management.

Emerging Design Talents 2014: New Voices

Emerging Design Talents 2014: New Voices is a platform for our young creative talents to express their creative minds and demonstrate their outstanding skills. A fine selection of student works from various design disciplines will be showcased. The New Fashion Force, Multimedia Entertainment Show 2014 – Our Happy Days and The Revolutionary Image of the New Generation are some of the highlights of the events. The opening ceremony will be held at 6:30pm on 19 June 2014.

FORM / SHIFT – HKDI Architecture Design Graduation Exhibition 2014

FORM / SHIFT is an exhibition to showcase design works of the first cohort of Architectural Design graduates of HKDI, which turns a new page in the architectural education and design scene of Hong Kong. ArtAlive@Park 2014

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, ArtAlive@Park 2014, is an exploratory programme with an aim to inspire innovation among local students by involving them in the creation and installation of artworks for public spaces. The opening ceremony was held on 19 May. After eight months of preparations, three installations, including Pipe Me Not, Raise and Six Degrees, by HKDI students of Higher Diploma in Landscape Architecture are unveiled at the prestigious Tamar Park on Hong Kong’s harbour front from May through August. |

London Fashionistas Experience
The event aims to engage and inspire the public about the development of fashion industry both locally and internationally, as well as to introduce a series of fashion workshops. One of the lecturers, Natalie Gibson, from Central Saint Martins awarded MBE, and Brodie Gibson, Founder of The Travelling Fashionistas, event co-organiser together with several fashion experts in Hong Kong will present FREE seminars at HKDI. | George Nelson: Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher Exhibition |

George Nelson: Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher - an exhibition, held by HKDI in collaboration with the internationally renowned Vitra Design Museum (Germany), and generously sponsored by Herman Miller Asia Pacific - was successfully concluded on 2 June 2014. Over 30,000 visitors, including the general public, various schools and social organisations came to appreciate a wide range of classic designs of George Nelson and to know more about this famous American industrial designer and one of the founders of American Modernism. During the guided tours for schools, students enjoyed to design their own colourful wall clocks.

| Roving Exhibition of Hong Kong Smart Gifts Design Awards 2014 |

With support from the CreateSmart Initiative (CSI), a government funding scheme under CreateHK, The Hong Kong Exporters’ Association (HKEA) successfully initiated the Hong Kong Smart Gifts Design Awards (HKSGDA) for the third year. Winning products from the Corporate Group and Conceptual Group showcasing professionals' and students' works, including winning entries by HKDI students, were exhibited at the roving exhibition, held at d-mart of HKDI and IVE (Lee Wai Lee). The exhibition aims at encouraging Hong Kong giftware designers and students to create their own designs by making use of advanced technology and groundbreaking techniques integrated with marketing and business strategy. It attracted youngsters and the general public to enjoy the innovative and original designs and learn how to enhance the values of the marketing strategy. The next stop of this roving exhibition will be held at GIFTEX World in Tokyo, Japan in July. |

| HKDI Presents: FILM SERIES Screening of Aberdeen and Sharing Session |

The film screening of Aberdeen, followed by a sharing session with Director Edmond Pang Ho-Cheung, was held on 19 May 2014 at HKDI. It was a full house event with 740 VTC staffs, students and the general public enjoying the local film Aberdeen together at the VTC Auditorium. After the film screening, Director, Pang Ho-cheung, and one of the main actresses, Gigi Leung, came and shared their creative experiences directly with the audiences. Kearen Pang, a cross-media creator, was invited to be the moderator of the sharing session. The audiences were enthusiastic and excited to ask questions. Pang Ho-Cheung shared the process of idea generation, the challenges he faced and some special shooting techniques etc., while Gigi shared with the audience about her acting experiences.

| Successful Branding Journey - 3rd Seminar: IT x POSH |

| HKDI works with successful brand leaders to deliver a series of branding seminars that will inspire students, industry practitioners and the general public on how to take a brand from good to great. Speakers of the third seminar on 6 Jun were Deborah Cheng, Head of Marketing & Communications Department and Vice President of International Business of I.T Limited, and Eric Yim, Founder, Chairman and CEO of POSH, a leading international furniture group in the industry. Deborah and Eric delivered inspiring speeches, while the audience also raised thoughtful questions about how to make use of one’s insights and creativities for successful branding development. |
