Master Lecture Series - Modernity and Continuity in Danish Architectural History

(此部份暫只提供英文版本)

Speaker: Peter Thule Kristensen

The Scandinavian countries are somewhat of a paradox: On one hand they came quite late to industrialization; they are sparsely populated and located in the periphery of Europe. On the other hand the Scandinavian countries are characterized by a series of conditions that are normally associated with modernity, for instance a high degree of secularization and of emancipation. The lecture examines how this paradox become visible in the 19th and 20th Century architectural history of one of the Scandinavian countries, Denmark.

Peter Thule Kristensen (b. 1966) is an architect who has two doctoral degrees and holds a position as Head of School of Architecture at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark. His research focuses on architectural history and he has been the author and editor of several publications, for instance the monograph Gottlieb Bindesbøll – Denmark’s First Modern Architect from 2013.
