Master Lecture Series – Interpreting Art and Performativity
(此部份暂只提供英文版本)

Speaker: Jung Eun-Young, Korean Media Artist

siren eun young jung will present a lecture about her research based art work on Yeosung Gukgeuk (Korean Traditional Female Theatre). Yeosung Gukgeuk started at the end of the 1940s is a similar type of the Korean traditional opera that declined after its popularity during the 1950s and 1960s. It is a genre where singing and dancing are combined and contains remaking stories of popular myths or novels based on Korean traditional music, Pansori. Yeosung Gukgeuk appropriates the characters who perform conventional gender role and their typical melodrama, however, it has a significantly, uniquely subversive style what only women player can perform all of characters. Siren has made a challengeable enthusiasm, questioning the two-gender based gender system, following and representing the gender expressions of player who are identified as male leaders.

For the Lecture, she is going to try to interpret her art works intervening gender performativity, not normativity.
