Outstanding HKDI Alumni: First Hong Kong Designer Swept the Champion at Humen Cup International Youth Design Competition

Against the 2,876 fashion pieces submitted by participants from China, USA, Japan, UK, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and etc , recent HKDI Fashion Design graduate, Darren Tsang, became the first Hong Kong designer to sweep the champion at the 16th Humen Cup International Youth Design (Women’s Wear) Competition and receive the cash prize of RMB 150,000. This competition nowadays has been well recognized by both the China and international fashion industry, in terms of the fashion trends, its globalization and its authority.

Paying tribute to his mother, Darren’s award winning collection “Hairpin” adopted over 50,000 pieces of hairpinsby hand on shoulders, neck, dress and etc to outline a dramatic sillhoutette with a touch of toughness, delivering a modern lady’s feminine with masculine. Darren will plan to go to UK for further study after graduating from the collaborative Top-up Degree Programme at Nottingham Trent University next year.
