A General Tour on International Contemporary Art

Contemporary art has entered into the life of general public by a popular development in various types of touring/international exhibitions/fairs and socially engaged art projects targeted wide range of audiences among cities and countries. In this lecture, contemporary art in new ideas or new use of media/materials by rich documentation of images from international /Hong Kong artists will be introduced. Students will have a general knowledge and understanding of the most recent international /Hong Kong contemporary art development. A hands-on art-activity will be created by students-participants during the lecture. If you are interested, please email Jessica Ho (jessicaho@vtc.edu.hk) for registration.

Speaker: Dr. Tang Ying Chi
Dr. Tang Ying Chi received BA (Fine Art Hons) from Goldsmiths College of the University of London in England and MFA, DFA from RMIT University respectively. Tang is both an active artist and art facilitator as well. She has organized the large-scale project ‘Art Container project 2008’ and edited the ‘Oasis, Artists Studio in Hong Kong 2007’. Tang’s works have been exhibited in Hong Kong and overseas. She has also received numerous awards and residency: Artist-in-Residence at Chiangmai University, Thailand, fully sponsored by Hong Kong Arts Development Council (2012), Artist-in-Residence at WCJ (2011-12), Artist-in-Residence at Lingnan University, Hong Kong (2011), British Council, Hong Kong 60 anniversary, People of the Time (2008), Artist-in-Residence at the Re-Wanchai: Hong Kong International Artists’ Workshop (2005), Artist of the Art-in-Neighbourhood Scheme by Art Promotion Office (2002), Asian Art Now Award, Asian Art Now, Asian Cultural Exchange Association (2001), Funding from Canada (1993-2000), Exhibition Grants from Hong Kong Arts Development Council (2000 to present), Urban Council Fine Arts Awards, Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial (1996). Tang works from painting to fabric installation to communicate issues of identity, culture and possibilities of communication.
