Chinese Box Exhibition

A box is a geometric construction comprised of point, line and basic planes. In China (within Chinese literature), a box structure makes reference to a framed narrative, a novel drama that is told in the form of a narrative inside a narrative inside a narrative etc., presenting views from different perspectives. In this sense, the students of the Visual Arts and Culture Programme have drawn from Chinese visual cultures in the module of Chinese Visual Arts Appreciation and Analysis and have constructed their own unique box-shaped art pieces through a story-telling approach in order to symbolize a sense of uncertainty.

In general, uncertainty makes things more attractive to us, like when we decide to open a box…
