Master Lecture Series – Contemporary Jewellery Making: The Materiality of Place

Speaker: Dr Beth Legg, Scottish Jewellery Maker

An investigation into the makers approach to material and process as a reflection of place within Northern European contemporary jewellery practice. Beth Legg, an internationally acclaimed jewellery maker based in Scotland will talk about her award-winning jewelry pieces. These works can be seen as a moving dialogue – each piece an exploration of composing elements encompassing themes of landscape and memory. Dr. Legg will also focus on the contemporary jewellery practice of fellow makers based in the UK.

Dr Legg holds a Masters of Design (MDes) from Edinburgh College of Art and a PhD from Edinburgh University, and has won a number of awards, including The Scottish Arts Council Start-Up Grant, The Harley Award for Best Use of Materials and Second Place in New Designer of the Year 2005. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, New York and London.
