Master Lecture Series – Between Art and Design

Speaker: Shun Kawakami, Japanese Graphic Designer

Shun Kawakami, an award winning art director, artist and designer who established his own design firm, artless Inc., in 1999. His creative output spans art, design, video, music, installation interaction design, video and spatial interventions. As an artist, he participates in various exhibitions and projects in Japan and aboard, curates exhibitions, and contributes art to various media outlets. He has received numerous awards, including NYADC Award, One Show, Good Design Award, and Tokyo Interactive Ad Award. www.artless.co.jp

Mr Kawakami works on a lot of personal art projects employing traditional Japanese culture/style but from a non-Japanese standpoint. In this lecture, Mr. Kawakami will explain his ways of unearthing art, design and society’s possibilities for one another, as well as his views on how art and design respond to our daily lives in the global senses.
