Master Lecture Series: Not Here, Not Now – Introduction to Critical Design

Speaker: Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby, Pioneers in Critical Design

Anthony Dunne & Fiona Raby form the design partnership Dunne & Raby, established in 1994. Anthony Dunne is Professor and Head of the Design Interactions programme at the Royal College of Art in London. Fiona is Professor of Industrial Design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and a Reader in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art in London.

Dunne & Raby use design as a medium to stimulate discussion and debate amongst designers, industry and the public about the social, cultural and ethical implications of existing and emerging technologies. Their work has been exhibited at MOMA, the Pompidou Centre, and the Science Museum in London and is in the permanent collections of MOMA, V&A, FRAC and FNAC. They have published three books: A. Dunne, Hertian Tales (RCA CRD Research Publications, 1999); Dunne and Raby, Design Noir: The Secret Life of Electronic Objects (Princeton Architectural Press, 2001), and Speculative Everything: Design, Fiction and Social Dreaming (MIT Press, 2013).
