The commencement of “Design Dialogue: Hong Kong Culture 2013”

To promote the understanding of local art, design and culture to a wider audience, HKDI organises 10 seminars on Hong Kong’s creative power featuring 11 designer masters who turn inspirations into business success from January and June 2013. The seminar series aims to stimulate the sensitivity for art, design and culture among design industry practitioners, students and the general public, thereby to inspire the creativity of Hong Kong people.

The opening ceremony and the first seminar were held on 24 January at HKDI & IVE(LWL). The Guest of Honour, the Hon Andrew LEUNG Kwan-Yuen, Legislative Councillor, GBS, JP, Mr Clement Chen Cheng-jen, VTC Chairman and the speakers officiated the commencement of the seminar series. Mr Andrew LEUNG mentioned in the opening speech, “HKDI has always been a keen supporter for the development of the creative industry of Hong Kong. “Design Dialogue: Hong Kong Culture 2013” comprises seminars by masters in the art, design and culture scenes of Hong Kong who will share their insights, and reveal the challenges and opportunities that creative talents are now facing, which is key to the sustainable development of culture and creativity.” Mr Clement CHEN pointed out that HKDI nurtures design professionals and supports the creative industry of Hong Kong through comprehensive and inspiring design programmes,

The first seminar was delivered by Mr Henry STEINER, known as “the father of Hong Kong design”, analysing his concept behind bank note design. This was followed by Ms. Tina LIU, top image designer of Hong Kong who shared with the audience her journey to become an image director. The audience actively exchanged ideas with the speakers. Ms Tina LIU also gave out her new publication during the Q& A session which brought the event to its climax.

The subsequent 9 seminars will include interesting topics from various areas of design, such as a dissection and analysis of the art of architecture by renowned architect Mr. Rocco YIM, the conversion of words into image in movies by famous art director Mr YEE Chung Man. Regardless of your area of business or study, join us in this exciting seminar series to be inspired and to breakthrough your own boundaries.
