Master Lecture Series - The Power of Fixing

Speaker: Ian de Vere

Fixing is a valuable, creative and social resource, and also a design process when applied to small fixing challenge and has the potential to give people insight and confidence to find solutions for themselves and others.

Dr lan de Vere, Head of Design Department, Brunel University London, UK, is an industrial designer whose focus is the development of curricula that responds to new patterns of professional design practice. He is also an award-winning designer with extensive industry experience in new product development, design for the public domain, commercial furniture design and educational museum design for children. Ian has been involved in design education since 2002, with an emphasis on creativity and innovation, user-centered design, ethical and sustainable practice, technical expertise and design entrepreneurship. In the master lecture, he will introduce the concept of “FIXPERTS”, a citizen-designer collaboration campaign founded by Professor Daniel Charny and James Carrigan, Co-founder and Creative Director of Sugru, the mouldable glue, with the mission to get the world fixing again.
