HKDI & IVE (LWL) Students Swept Key Awards at The 15th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition

5 Nov 2013

Two students from HKDI & IVE (LWL) won Champion and 2nd Runner-Up at the 15th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition, organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council. The award winning designs will be exhibited at the Hong Kong Optical Fair at The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 6th to 8th November 2013. The theme of this year's eyewear competition was "Craft of Paradise", aiming to encourage designers to integrate classic design into their innovative ideas.

Cheung Sui Cheung from IVE (LWL) High Diploma in Jewellery Design and Technology won the Champion out of 110 student participants with his creative design named “Prime”. The design is inspired by the transformation of an autobot in a famous science fiction Transformers. Prime is mainly in black and silver with a metallic and sturdy frame, creating a protective and high-tech look. The sunglasses are slim but strong, which can be folded into a rectangular flat pane of size 5.5mm(D) x 71mm(H) x 68mm(W), as handy as floppy disk. Such creative, tiny and convenient design is highly appreciated by the judging panel.

Joe Hang Na from HKDI Higher Diploma in Product Design (Timepiece and Lifestyle Product) was awarded the 2nd Runner-up with his works Hairpin. The eyewear is inspired by the gorgeous hairpin invented in the ancient time. A tree peony and gold representing wealth and jade meaning power are integrated into the design, creating an elegant and gorgeous feel.
