Master Lecture Series – Fifty Years of Illustration
Speaker: Professor Lawrence Zeegen
Professor ZEEGEN will introduce contemporary illustration’s rich history: from the rampant idealism of the 1960s to the bleak realism of the 1970s, and from the over-blown consumerism of the 1980s to the digital explosion of the 1990s, followed by the increasing diversification of illustration in the early twenty-first century. Professor ZEEGEN will explore the contexts in which the discipline has operated and looks historically, sociologically, politically and culturally at the key factors at play across each decade, whilst artworks by key illustrators bring the decade to life.
Professor Lawrence ZEEGEN is Professor of Illustration and the Dean of the School of Design at Ravensbourne University London, where he leads undergraduate and postgraduate courses in advertising and communication design, architecture and interiors and fashion design. He has held senior positions in design education at University of the Arts London, Kingston University and University of Brighton, has lectured extensively at conferences and acted as a design education consultant nationally and internationally.
