Dear Students,

Welcome to the Department of Fashion and Image Design (FID), a vibrant department that nurtures design talents in fashion, image, costume, fashion media, fashion branding and buying professions!

Your learning journey in FID will be full of fun and excitement. You will enjoy the glamourous annual fashion show or image show, or the social media live-streaming workshops from social media influencers, or the industrial-collaborated fashion branding and buying projects and webinars from masters of world-famous fashion brands.

Remember to pay a visit to our Fashion Archive (FA) located at A707. It houses thousands of beautiful fashion outfits to enable learning fashion with real garments. The Centre of Innovative Material and Technology (CIMT) at DM11a is a material library with advanced and smart materials to enrich your creative works. The Centre of Design Services and Solutions (CDSS) at A112 is an incubation retail lab where your creative works produced can be displayed for sell. With the state-of-the-art resources in HKDI, students in FID continue to excel year after year, with outstanding achievements including the Young Design Talent Award (YDTA), the Young Designers Contest (YDC), and awards from the World of Wearable Art Contest (WOW).

With support from Council and industry funding, you will have the opportunity to join overseas study tours and exchange programmes. Students in FID used to have memorable study trips and overseas exchange to Italy, France, Denmark, Sweden, UK, Japan and Singapore.

There are more to discover when you go along with your programme for sure. Your programme leaders will give you more details in separate orientation meetings, so be prepared to join accordingly.
