HKDI students won several awards at the Fur Design Competition

20 Jan 2015

HKDI students and alumni of Fashion and Image Design became the Champion and First-runner up at the Fur Design Competition 2015. It is the fifth consecutive year for HKDI students and alumni to win the Championship. The First runner-ups of both the Full Fur Category and Fur Combination Category also go to HKDI student.

Champion of the Full Fur Category goes to HKDI alumni Jim Wing Yan. Her design is inspired by the pattern of cells. Instead of using conventional colours such as grey or black, Wing Yan uses metallic orange and winter white as the colours of the fur coat. The coat is made of grooved mink, with mixed pieces of shinny leather attach to it. After receiving the award, Wing Yan will be arranged to join a one-week training at the Fur Design Centre in Copenhagen and received a sponsorship to tour around Europe, aiming to broaden her horizon and enhance her skills.

The first runner-up at the Fur Design Competition (Full Fur Category) goes to HKDI student Kwok Yu Yi. The inspiration of her winning design comes from a snowman in a beautiful winter. It is a fur coat with silver fox sleeve and mink, which adopts an “H” line silhouette and oversized sleeves with multiple layers of colours presented in great detail.

The first runner-up at the Fur Combination Category goes to HKDI student Lo Wing Suen. The winning design is an overcoat with a silver fox hood. It is inspired by the soul of insects, which is mysterious and full of imagination. The coat is made of ivory wool and silver fox fur and decorated with print, sequins and embroidery.

The annual Hong Kong Fur Design Competition is organised by the Hong Kong Fur Federation with an aim to nurture rising stars for the fur industry. HKDI students and alumni have always received great results at the competition.
