HKDI Student Won the First Runner-up at the 5th Hong Kong Young Knitwear Designers’ Contest

27 Feb 2015

The Hong Kong Young Knitwear Designers’ Contest is organised by Knitwear Innovation and Design Society. It aims to nurture the new generation of wool designers, to promote Hong Kong’s Knitwear design and manufacturing capabilities. This year, 10 local young designers entered the finalist and competed for 6 awards.

HKDI graduate of Fashion Design, Tiffany Lee Ho Yan, who is currently studying for a top-up degree at Nottingham Trent University, became the 1st Runner-up at the 5th Hong Kong Young Knitwear Designers’ Contest. Her winning design “No Face”, is inspired by a character in Hayao Miyazaki’s animated film Spirited Away. She wants to express the kindness of human being, which is very often hidden behind emotionless faces. She also uses warm colours, such as yellow on top of conventional black, white and grey, in order to emphasize the warmth felt by others as people extend their kindness. Tiffany will receive a scholarship to have a cultural visit in Paris and learn more about the latest design trend.
