Master Lecture Series – I Miss You Already
Speaker: Shen Wei
Shen Wei is New York-based photographer with an MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts, New York. His work has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally in many private and public collections including the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Museum of Chinese in America and the Kinsey Institute. Some of his work is also included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, to name a few.
Shen Wei is known for his intimate portraits of others and himself, as well as his photographic exploration of contemporary China. His work on portraiture raises the question about human nature, emotions, feelings, instincts and identity. In this lecture, Shen Wei will discuss with the public on topics of using self-portraits series as a platform for pushing against cultural boundaries, expressing sexuality, as well as exploring self-discovery and contemplation.
