1 Feb 2013

HKDI students from the Department of Fashion and Image Design (FID) clinched 10 awards at the 13th Hong Kong Footwear Design Competition, to include the Gold prizes in the categories of Children’s Shoes, Ladies’ Boots and Ladies’ Shoes and Bags.

Lee Ngai Yee won the Gold Prize winner in the Children’s Shoes Category, with her innovative design entitled “Instrumental Ensemble”. Inspired by various kinds of musical instruments, the pair of shoes were accessorised with multi-coloured steel plates and shoelaces with little wooden balls resembling a xylophone. When children put them on to walk, it would create pleasant tunes like an orchestra, which connotes a happy childhood.

“Leaning Tower of Pisa” was designed by Wong Ka Man, Gold Prize winner of Ladies’ Boots Category. Taking reference from the structure of the Tower of Pisa, Wong conveyed elegance and nobleness on her boots design, adding a sense of perspective with laser cut patterns.

Wong Mei Ying from the HD in International Fashion Business won the Gold Prize of the Ladies’ Shoes and Bags Category with her design “Black Swan”. Inspired by the movie of the same name, she embodied the Black Swan the black shoes and bags to give a sense of mystery and elegance.

The 13th Footwear Design Completion Hong Kong is organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Footwear Ltd, aiming to discover footwear design talent and promote sustainable development of the footwear industry. A total of about 1000 submissions were received under the 7 categories. The competition provided an opportunity for HKDI students to better understand market trends and needs and prepared them for future career development.
