Master Lecture Series: A Glimpse into the Development of Oil Painting in Hong Kong since 1980s

Speaker: Dr. Lai Mei Lin

Dr. Lai Mei Lin is the residency scholar of the Hong Kong Design Institute in 2016. She received her PhD in art history from the University of Sydney. She has taught a wide spectrum of Chinese and Western art history courses at various educational institutions, including the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Lai's research interests focus on Hong Kong art after WWII, particularly the development of oil painting as well as ink painting since the 1970s. The present lecture will introduce some Hong Kong oil painters and their representative works, with a view to tracing the ways in which they have developed and re-defined this time-honored art form. It will also seek to unravel some commonalities as well as diverse concerns in their artistic pursuits.
