Aesthetics in a Cross-Cultural Creation

Speaker: Ms Maki Shimizu

Ms Maki Shimizu is an educator, artist as well as designer of distinction. With a strong cross cultural background in her education and profession, her creations have been expressing the touch of east and west culture. Derived from Ms. Maki’s Japanese root, she captures the exquisiteness and sprit of Japanese craftsmanship for her creation and expresses the cultural value of Japan by using her exclusive aesthetics. Other than that, she is inspired by European styles of arts and designs so much since she was educated in Berlin and has been working there for over 10 years. Furthermore, she cherishes traditional art skills such as wooden block painting, lithography and stamping, and applies these skills as the medium for her artworks in both fine art or design areas. Because of her outstanding works in the industries, she has been recognised by different organisations. For example, she was awarded by “Art Director Club” and “SPACE”, and many press and magazines such as “Page”, “Blond Magazine”, “Newsdigest”, “44 flavours magazine” featured her profile as well as her contribution to the readers.
