World Design Summer Camp 2013

27 June 2013

The only one of its kind in Hong Kong, the World Design Summer Camp (WDSC) is held from 27 June to 11 July 2013 to continue its mission of encouraging cultural and design knowledge exchange among global and local university students.

The camp aims at building up design thinking with global perspectives related to social, economic and environmental topics, as well as sharpening the creative output in a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary context.

The themed tracks of WDSC 2013 are: Fashion and Culture, and Social Innovation. About 120 design students from around the world gather in Hong Kong to participate in different track programmes, plenary sessions, seminars, workshops, field visits, group explorations and discussions, and have the rare chance to meet and learn from international design masters. In addition, a special study tour to the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in mainland China is organised for exploration of new cultural and design trends in southern China. All these activities are essential knowledge and invaluable experience for the future talents who will engage in the design and creative industries.

Participating students will “graduate” from the summer camp with broader horizon and better understanding of the cultural and design-driven developments in China. They will also be the “good-will ambassadors” of Hong Kong to project a favorable image of the city world-wide.

A Post-Camp Exhibition will be held at the foyer of VTC Auditorium in HKDI to showcase the learning outcomes of this Summer Camp from 22 July to 2 August.
