HKDI, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Museum of Art, created an e-Book “A Journey into Chinese Painting: A Selection of Works from the Xubaizhai Collection” to present works of the Xubaizhai Collection in the form of an innovative electronic book and animation.

25 pieces of famous paintings, demonstrating different genres of painters from Ming and Qing Dynasties, are selected and ran through a painting “Fifteen Views of The Garden (園林十五景)” by Wen Boren (文伯仁), a Chinese landscape painter during Ming Dynasty. The readers can enjoy a journey in an ancient landscape garden with different Chinese paintings in Ming and Qing Dynasty.

HKDI students from Printing and Publishing Programme and Digital Music Media Programme participated in the production, art direction, and illustration in the visual (design, animation and publishing) and aural dimensions (accompany music) of the e-Book. New trans-media storytelling technology was employed to illuminate the oldest art form. Pictorial forms and poetry comes to life as art in motion, releasing the power of the imagination, allowing engagement and participation in a way the public can understand and appreciate.

The exhibition of “A Journey into Chinese Painting: A Selection of Works from the Xubaizhai Collection” will be held at Xubaizhai Gallery, Hong Kong Museum of Art starting from 30th August 2013.
