HKDI students become the Champion and First-Runner Up at the Innovative Design Competition

14 Jul 2014

“The Social Innovation Inventor – Competition for Innovative Design” was organized by the World Green Organisation (WGO). The Competition aims at encouraging the young generation of Hong Kong to unleash their creativity and design a favourable living environment for the city’s low-income families. The award-giving ceremony was held at Ma On Shan Plaza on 11 July 2014. HKDI students achieved great results at the Competition, as they became the Champion and First-runner up in the Tertiary Education Student Group, among 108 competitors. Members of the Champion team were given an opportunity to participate in a 5-day learning trip at the Cambridge University in UK.

Members of the Champion team include Hung Chung Hong, Ng Tsz Sze and Yip Wai Shing. Their winning design “Live . Move . Bamboo" is created as a gift for families residing in sub-divided flats. The concept of this design is inspired and transformed from bamboo. Installing a bamboo gate at the entrance will enhance ventilation and reduce the temperature indoor. Each piece of furniture can be removed to create a larger living space, which allows more interactions among family members.

Ng Wing Ho Victor, Wong Kam Ting and Tam Ting Hin are members of the First-runner up Team. Their winning design is entitled “Reborn in Desperate and Setback”. Through a flexible spatial planning, the team introduces a convection system and use lighting to enhance the living and learning experience for children in the sub-divided flat, so that the next generation can empower themselves and greet their future.

The World Green Organisation (WGO) is an independent non-governmental organisation concerned with environmental conservation and environmentally related livelihood and economic affairs.
