ArtAlive@Park 2014

19 May 2014

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, ArtAlive@Park 2014 is an exploratory programme with an aim to inspire innovation among local students by involving them in the creation and installation of artworks for public spaces, as well as challenging them to use their artistic creations to engage the community with arts and design. The opening ceremony was held on 19 May. After eight months of preparations, three installations, including Pipe Me Not, Raise and Six Degrees created by HKDI students of Higher Diploma in Landscape Architecture are unveiled at the prestigious Tamar Park on Hong Kong’s harbour front from May through August 2014.

Pipe Me Not is an art installation made up of pipes with different heights attached to the ground. It aims to remind us the fun of communication. Visitors can try to find the connecting pipes together with their friends, by chasing the sound transmitting through these pipes. Raise creates a visual effect that a red balloon is lifting up the grass field and releasing the black balloons underneath. This installation aims to cheer up the people of Hong Kong and encourage them to have positive attitudes. Six Degrees forms a hexagon with sparsely scattered triangles and nets. There are six corners, each with different and identical degrees, demonstrating the theory that people are inter-connected in different ways.

These artistic installations are designed and crafted in line with the surrounding environment. It is hoped that visitors will be able to embrace a novel interactive park experience through personal contact with innovative, site-specific works.
