International music icon Karen Mok made a surprise visit to the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), taking on the role of “One-Day Store Manager” at the V Music Library. Joined by her band, The Masters, she delivered an engaging music exchange session that captivated the audience. Karen spoke candidly with students about film, music, vinyl records, design and fashion culture, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and inspiration.
Event Highlights:
Karen shared fond childhood memories of using her pocket money to purchase her very first vinyl record – ABBA’s Fernando. She also revealed that her admiration for “Uncle Leslie” (Leslie Cheung) from a young age sparked her passion for the arts. During the session, Karen introduced her latest music project, the vinyl album Karen Mok & The Masters, a dream collaboration brought to life.
In her message to HKDI students, Karen encouraged them to “dream big and persevere; don’t dwell on the effort required during the learning process.”
The event concluded on a high note as one lucky fan walked away with a personally signed poster from Karen, filling the V Music Library with warmth and joy.
