Hong Kong Design Institute is delighted to congratulate Cheang King Tung, Kenneth, a graduate of the Higher Diploma in Fashion Image Design programme under the Department of Fashion and Image Design, on winning the Excellence Award and Best Art Direction Award at the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2026 (YDC 2026).

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), YDC 2026 brought together 10 up-and-coming local fashion designers to present their collections at the grand finale of CENTRESTAGE, Asia’s annual premier fashion event. Kenneth received the two awards for his collection NOSTALGIA, which demonstrates his distinctive creative vision and strong ability to translate emotion, memory and cultural identity into fashion.

Inspired by the 1983 film Nostalghia, Kenneth’s collection explores themes of “homeland”, “distance” and “yearning”. Rather than directly recreating scenes from the film, NOSTALGIA extracts its emotional rhythm and transforms Kenneth’s personal feelings for Hong Kong into a poetic visual language expressed through clothing.

This remarkable achievement reflects Kenneth’s creativity, artistic direction and sensitivity towards the cultural landscape of Hong Kong. HKDI is proud to see its graduate gaining recognition on a leading industry platform that nurtures and celebrates the next generation of fashion design talent.
