International Collaboration with Bunka Gakuen University

26 Sep 2014

HKDI signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bunka Gakuen University, Japan in October 2013. Bunka Gakuen University is a world-famous Fashion University in Japan. Outstanding alumnus include prominent fashion designers Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe and Kenzo Takada.

Since the signing of MOU, reciprocal exchange programmes among students and lecturers of the two institutions have started. In Summer 2014, two students from HKDI’s Department of Fashion and Image Design completed a two-week exchange programme in Tokyo. Students were arranged to join classes in Bunka Gakuen University, participated in a series of cultural activities including the Japan Fashion Week, and gained work experience in fashion companies in Japan.

The collaboration also involves staff exchange between HKDI and Bunka. In September 2014, Prof. Katsue Edo from Bunka Gakuen University visited HKDI and delivered a series of lectures and seminars to our students. In January 2015, lecturer from HKDI will also be invited to visit Bunka Gakuen University and deliver seminars to the students in Japan. We hope that these exchange programmes will enhance collaboration between the two institutions and bring inspirations to both students and lecturers.
