The winning design is inspired by an aurora, which turns different light rays into a colourful sky by burning solar particles while entering the Earth’s upper atmosphere. The four colour gems and bridge represent aurora appearing in different colours. Hemispherical glass simulates the excitement when overlooking the earth from mid-air. The users can enjoy the colourful world on their hands every minute and every second.

Their winning design “Mirror” enables occupants to move around the storage units and other furniture with a tap on the smartphone, which allows the usable space to be expanded or shrunk. The concept of interior design is called “Layering”, meaning a multi-functional space. The living-dining room features storage cabinet and furniture that can be moved around by remote control using a smartphone. Large LED panels mounted to the wall around the living-dining room and the ceiling can show different scenes like a green hillside, the seaside, and the sunset, allowing their occupants to enjoy a comfortable ambience. A “smart walk-in closet” can free up more space in the room with a click of the smartphone.

"FLATPACKABLE" is a collection that observes the social phenomenon – people are paying more but for lesser space – and wishes to address the issue through its design. It aims to bring out the message that freeing up space for what is essential in life, both physically and mentally, is key to finding inner peace and happiness in the sometimes-chaotic outer world!

The collection plays with the idea of “expandable and collapsible space” and applies flatpack- and origami-inspired concepts to its design. The folded detail is the key feature; each and every piece can expand and collapse into its “flattest” form. Organza ironed on medium-stiffness interfacing fabric is the main material used in the collection, as it resembles the quality of paper, which is foldable, thin and lightweight.
