Spending a semester at HKDI as an exchange student from Paris was an incredibly enriching experience, both academically and personally. From the very beginning, we were welcomed with warmth, and the inclusive atmosphere made it easy to integrate into the new environment. The teachers were especially attentive, always making sure that we understood all the material and that we didn’t feel left behind. If we had any difficulties, we could always approach them and ask for help, which created a truly supportive learning environment.

One of the biggest differences I noticed was the approach to design. At my home university, the focus is on physical model-making and hands-on testing, whereas at HKDI, there was a strong emphasis on digital tools. We arrived with almost no computer skills, yet by the end of the semester, we had completed an entire project using software we had never worked with before. It was fascinating to see how the design process could be approached so differently, and adapting to this new method pushed me to develop skills I might not have gained otherwise.

Beyond the academic experience, collaborating with local students and being immersed in Hong Kong’s dynamic design culture gave me fresh perspectives on interior architecture. The exchange was not just about learning new tools but also about understanding different ways of thinking and approaching design. This semester at HKDI was truly transformative, fun and enriching. Thank you so much!
