Emerging Design Talents 2015: SOAR offers a platform for creative students to showcase the best of their work and let their creativity soar. Dr. Edmund Lee, Executive Director of Hong Kong Design Centre and Guest of Honour of the Opening Ceremony, delivered an inspiring speech to the students and audience. Besides the popular New Fashion Force (Fashion Show) and The Revolutionary Image of the New Generation: Surrealism (Image Show), this year, an “Advanced Design Studio” (ADS) was introduced to the public. The ADS presented design projects from 10 outstanding students, who went to Austria for an intensive inspiration course and came up with their designs under the theme “Future 10 Years”. This year, the event has successfully attracted a large number of audience from the design industry, local secondary schools, as well as the general public.
The Department of Communication Design and Digital Media at HKDI hosted the “ALL IN! - THE FILM SHOW 2015” Star Night on 24 June 2015 at the VTC Auditorium. Many experts in the film industry and renowned directors attended this event, including Derek Kwok Chi-kin, Director of Gallants (2010) and Full Strike (2015); Raymond Wong, Director of Dot 2 Dot (2014); Law Yiu-Fai, Director of Lucky Me (to be released in 2016); Lee Po-Cheun, Director of Gangster Payday (2014); BILL Yip, Director of Cure (2011); Actors Cheng Shu Fung and Wong Shu Tong, and Screenwriter Ms. Zhang Fan. More than 600 film enthusiasts and film makers also participated in the film screening event. Directors and crew members SHARED with the audience on their creative process and the challenges they have encountered. The screening received very positive feedbacks from the audience. Mr. Derek Kwok, renowned local film director even said that films produced by this year’s HKDI students were among the most creative in all the local graduation screenings he has ever participated.
