Master Lecture Series - Spectacular Vernacular

Speaker: Tim Parsons & Jessica Charlesworth

In "Spectacular Vernacular" Tim Parsons and Jessica Charlesworth will show how design can help people re-evaluate the objects around them and the opportunities that lie ahead. Drawing from projects that address issues as varied as rituals of death and dying to climate change and vernacular Americana, the lecture surveys their work across the realms of speculative and poetic object design.

Parsons & Charlesworth is a design studio founded in 2014 by Chicago-based British husband and wife team Tim Parsons and Jessica Charlesworth. After running independent practices they joined forces to pursue projects that explore the practical, rhetorical, poetic and speculative possibilities of object making. Working across a variety of media, they create objects, exhibits, texts and images that encourage reflection upon the current and future state of our design culture.

Tim and Jessica are both faculty in the Designed Objects department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and are graduates of The Royal College of Art in London.
