Fashion Design alumni clinched at DFA Young Design Talent Awards 2020
Graduate of HKDI’s Higher Diploma in Fashion Design CHAN Pui-yi Yoyo, shone at HKDI Young Design Talent Award bestowed by Hong Kong Design Centre, her talent is well recognized.
Yoyo is always fascinated by the beauty of handicrafts. Complexly crafted is “Musubi”, traditional techniques such as bundling, weaving, tangling are layered into modern clothing and then adorned with traditional patterns from Japanese culture. With ropes tying different garments into one outfit, its silhouette smoothly combines both ancient and modern forms with a twist to remind viewers that there is always beauty in details if they learn to look close enough.
Yoyo has built up a strong interest in fashion when studied in secondary school, she took part in different competitions and exchange programs, such as visited the University of the Arts London Saint Martins) for a short art course, for gaining experiences. As a fashion designer, she hopes to integrate culture and the spirit of craftsmanship in her future designs.
DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award cultivates local young designers
DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award (DFA HKYDTA) as one of the programmes of DFA Awards organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), aims to support and cultivate local up-and-coming designers and design graduates. Awardees may receive sponsorship to undergo overseas work attachment in renowned design companies or study in overseas institutes to unleash their potential and contribute to Hong Kong’s design and creative industry development upon their return.
