HKDI students of Visual Communication received the Gold and Bronze Awards at the Conqueror Happy Design Contest 2013-2014

HKDI students of Visual Communication, Fung Hoi Ching and Chan Sau Na designed a set of paper stationery (envelopes, letterheads and business cards) and organisation logos for the Autism Children Foundation and the Association for Geoconservation (Hong Kong) respectively. Their designs have won the Gold and Bronze awards at the Conqueror Happy Design Contest 2013-2014. Both of them would also be given a chance to participate in a 4-day exchange programme at Tokyo Designers Week.

Fung Hoi Ching, who has won both the Gold Award and Judge's Choice by Michael Miller Yu Award, was inspired by the creativity and artistic expressions shared by children with autism. Through the design, Hoi Ching hopes the general public would understand how children with autism love to express themselves through artistic creations. She also wishes to encourage these children to connect themselves with other people through their own creativity. One of the judges, Mr. Michael Miller Yu, compliments Hoi Ching’s design as very “heartwarming” as it helps to raise social awareness on the connection between people with autism and their artistic potentials.

Chan Sau Na, Bronze award winner of the competition, designed a set of stationery for the Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong. Her design was inspired by the patterns commonly found in granite rock formations in Hong Kong. She uses these patterns to represent several iconic hills in Hong Kong, such as Tai Mo Shan, Ma On Shan, Lion Rock Hill, Sunset Peak, Fei Ngo Shan (Kowloon Peak), and Lantau Peak.

The Exhibition of Conqueror Happy Design Contest 2013-2014 will be held from 10 Sept – 10 Oct 2014 at the Learning Resources Centre, HKDI and IVE (Lee Wai Lee). Conqueror Design Contest has been organised for over 30 years. Competitors are required to design a set of paper-stationery for a company or an organisation to reflect its corporate identity. This year, apart from China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Macau; Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand are also included in the regional competition in Asia.
