HKDI Fashion Design Graduate Jenny Lam Wins “My Favourite Collection Award” at YDC 2026
Hong Kong Design Institute is delighted to congratulate Lam Chun Ni, Jenny, a graduate from the Higher Diploma in Fashion Design programme under the Department of Fashion and Image Design, on winning the “My Favourite Collection Award” at the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2026 (YDC 2026).
Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), YDC is a prestigious platform for nurturing and showcasing emerging fashion design talent in Hong Kong. The “My Favourite Collection Award” was decided by public voting, with Jenny receiving the honour for her collection The Old Si-Fut and New Chai.
Jenny’s winning collection, The Old Si-Fut and New Chai, takes inspiration from Hong Kong’s workplace culture, exploring the relationship between experienced “si-futs” and workplace newcomers, or “new chais”. Through fashion design, she translates familiar workplace expressions such as “be humble”, “talk less” and “endure hardship before you succeed” into creative visual elements, capturing the tension between conforming to established rules and the desire to challenge them.
Jenny is currently studying for a BA (Hons) Fashion Design, a programme jointly offered by SHAPE and the School of Art & Design at Nottingham Trent University (NTU).
This achievement demonstrates Jenny’s creativity, cultural sensitivity and strong storytelling ability through fashion. HKDI is proud to see its students and graduates gaining recognition on an industry platform that celebrates the next generation of local fashion designers.
