Programme Objectives
- Describe the typographic and document design theories that make typography work for supporting reading;
- Apply aesthetic and digital craft skills on character, paragraph, list, table, object and page levels using industry-standard page layout software; and
- Make appropriate and informed orthographic and typographic decisions when designing with complex text matter to support different modes of reading.
Programme Outlines
Typography is not just about the styling of text - it shapes how we read and engage with information. This course explores what makes typography work for reading and advanced aesthestic and digital craft skills that enable that.
This programme takes an in-depth look at the technics and thinking behind good typography that works. The focus is not type as a conceptual or expressive element, but a lucid vehicle for textual content to support different contexts and modes of reading. Digital craft knowledge will be complemented by theory of typography and document design. Suitable for practising communication designers who are interested in elevating their craft skills and typographic knowledge for creating usable and aesthestically sound documents.

Basic Qualification
| (a) | - | Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; OR |
| - | Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; OR | |
| - | Completion of a QF Level 3 programme that is deemed acceptable to the respective Programme Board; OR | |
| - | Relevant RPL qualification(s) at QF Level 3 or above AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written; OR | |
| - | Other relevant verifiable prior learning and/or work experience that is/are deemed appropriate by respective Programme Board AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written. | |
| (b) | Applicants are required to have at least 1 year of relevant working experience. | |
| (c) | Basic knowledge of graphic design (particularly page layout) is highly preferred. | |
| (d) | An interview may also be required on a need basis. |
Mature Applicants
Mature applicants, i.e. those aged 21 or above with at least two years’ relevant working experience, can be admitted. Where appropriate, the applicant may be required to pass an entrance assessment, which can be in an oral and/or written form.
