Programme Overview
The Professional Diploma in Graphic Communication provides learners with the professional acumen to practise as a graphic designer, building a solid foundation from basic graphic design elements and branding, to communicate messages and stories through data, user interface, user experience, as well as typography and storytelling.
The programme is organised around ten modules (30 hours each) that cover:
- Brand Promotion: you will learn what visual identity and branding is about, and apply advanced visualisation skills to tell the brand story; you will then design for social media – the most popular brand touchpoint nowadays, create tactics and content; fundamentals of animation and motion graphics will also be taught to broaden the application of graphic skills attained
- Information and Interface Design: to organise information creatively and in a user-friendly manner, you will integrate the user-centred design thinking process in data visualisation and information architecture, tell stories with infographics, and design interfaces and user experience
- Typography Design and Application: provides you with the understanding of typography beginning with font anatomy, grid, type structure and development, achieving clarity and visual balance in typography application; both English and Chinese typography will be explored
- Advanced Typography: Publications*: you will learn to develop editorial direction based on target readership; create visual concepts through imagery and typography; apply typographic detailing, grid structures and information hierarchy in publication design
*Notes for applicants of Advanced Typography in Publications: |
(1) You are required to bring your own laptop (installed with Adobe InDesign) to the classes; |
(2) You are recommended to have a printer (any model) if the classes are delivered online. |
More than training on the use of various design softwares (which is abundant in the continuing education market), this programme focuses on the user-centric methodology of design and concept of branding to inspire learners to generate creative solutions and tell compelling stories, with strong command of graphical representation.
